I wonder how many people have heard of this website, www.Cabletvadvisor.com, that has information comparing a couple of different TV service providers. I mean, I had never heard of the website until probably about a month ago when I was looking into getting a new service set up at our house. We had had the same service for a while and were not completely happy with it. I mean, the basic channels were fine, but it seemed like there could be more for the price we were paying. I actually realized my instinct was true when I went on that site. I found that our old service was actually smaller and not as price comparable to others. It just did not seem right to be paying so much for something we were not crazy about. I ended up confirming the information from the TV advisor website on the TV service company’s website. At first, I was a little mad, but then I realized that I never even researched the service before we had it set up. Learned my lesson once and I will not be doing it again, for sure!

Importance of being Consistency in Parenting

It’s no secret that Successful parents are consistent parents. We all know children need to have a routine and structure.  They also need to know what is expected out of them.  I have learned the hard way, that  my kids become confused when I display inconsistency in disciplinary actions or even in my own behavior as a parent. I will be the first to admit that it can be difficult to be consistent 100% of the time.

I am guilty letting my kids’ behavior or actions slide a few times when I am busy or just too tired to deal with it.  I used to think that letting things slid wouldn’t make much difference but I was wrong! It does!  As parents we sometimes feel bad about telling our child “NO”, especially when they give us those puppy eyes or begging us please.  However, I am happy to say that I am getting better at it. Saying no is not as hard as I thought! There is nothing wrong with saying no! I think more parents need to realize that! As parents we set rules and boundaries to protect them.  There is nothing wrong with discipline!  To be honest many kids today are lacking just that!  Then we question what’s wrong with our youth!

Kids need to be able to trust and depend on us as parents. When we are inconsistent kids can learn distrust. They also learn that we as parents are willing to give in if they keep pushing,   They can even feel that we are lying when we say something.  Let’s face it if we say one thing and do the other that is a lie. Even if it is a little white lie.  No matter what we think our kids are really paying attention to everything we do and say.  They may test us but at the end of the day they know what they can or cannot get away with.

So parents don’t be afraid of telling your child no and sticking to it. One day they will thank you!

I’m so proud of my 1st grader!

I am one very happy mom right now! This week report cards came home! I am so proud of my kids! Education is one thing we don’t play around with in this house!  My kids might get away with a lot of other stuff, but when it comes to school they all know the deal!  I was very excited to learn that my 1st grader is reading on a 5th grade level.  She loves to read and write.  She recently wrote a story that was picked to go to a state contest! So far we are winning in the district level.  I hope this experience helps her grow and keeping going with her love of writing.  She is also doing very well in math.  Thanks to technology there are so many great first grade math games online that has helped her advance. She loves to spend her free time play educational games.

As a parent I know how important it is to start my kids early.  I am amazed that some kids are so far behind even in the first grade.  Most people want to blame the schools and teachers, however I blame the parents!  Education should start in the home. As parents I feel we should be helping our kids achieve and aim higher.  Yes, school is very important but if we are not giving our kids the right environment at home what should we expect!  I am a strong believer that parents should work closely with our teachers and schools to make sure our kids are getting the proper education.   I was shocked to learn that so many elementary students don’t even do or turn in their homework!   To me that is telling me that the parents are not even looking in the child’s backpacks!  Studies show when parents and families get personally involved in education, their children do better in school and grow up to be more successful in life.

Don’t we owe it to our kids? With all the resources that we have today no child should be behind.  I will be the first to admit I HATED AND STILL HATE MATH! However, that don’t give me an excuse not to help my child! Trust me Google is my best friend. If I don’t know or understand something my kids have for homework I find it!

So my question is how do you help your child exceed in school?

New baby

Well it has finally happened. We are going to have a baby in six months. After a long time of waiting, I can’t believe this miracle is going to bless our home in a few short months. There is so much to do when you are expecting your first child. I had no idea about everything that needed to be done. I am sure as I go along I will find out a long more things that need to be done. The first thing we have started doing to get ready for the baby is paint the nursery. I am so excited to finally get to make our extra room into a baby’s room. We are not going to find out what the baby is until it is born so picking out the colors for the room and bedding have to be colors that will go with a boy or a girl. I colors are khaki and white. Then we bought a couple of pieces of furniture including the crib and a chest. My mom plans to buy me a rocker, and I have registered for a lot of smaller things to finish out decorating the room. Although it is still early, my husband has already been doing things to child proof the house like buying baby gates for the stairs and putting those little plus things in the electrical sockets. He also wants to get a security system through http://securitychoice.com because we have heard so many horror stories about kidnappers coming in people’s homes and stealing children. We want the best for this new life that is being entrusted to us.

Pulling out all the stops for our school’s Christmas present

This year I have the pleasure of planning my daughter’s school’s Christmas pageant. A teacher that recently retired used to always handle it and they needed someone to fill that role so I volunteered to do that. It’s turning out to be pretty stressful, but I’ve been in charge of things like this before so I knew full well that I could handle it.

I’m really great at delegating things, so I’ve got a lot of things under control. But there are still a few things I need to worry about. I was online looking for some answers to some remaining questions, when I ran across the site miracle-ear.com. Now that Christmas has past, it’s time for my second favorite season—Bowl Time! I’m super pumped this year to see my Cavaliers play at my home bowl, the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl! I already have my tickets and my gear ready; I’m just waiting for the big day. With all the fan activities and festivities planned before the big game it will be a long day away from the house. With my ATL home security I’m not worried about being away all day and evening. I’ll set it before I leave and have no worries. We’ll get up early that morning, put on our Virginia paraphernalia and pack our tailgate gear then head downtown to see the sights. There is always plenty to do for the whole family including free concerts, face painting and vendors with lots of good food. I love walking around and seeing all the fans. It’s amazing how creative they can be with their gear and decorations! We’ll keep it pretty tame with team sweatshirts and jerseys, pompoms and maybe some face paint, but some people go all out and even decorate their cars!
